From Alex Cherney and The Bothers Nylon’s new album, dive into ‘Pool Party’

Alex Cherney and The Brothers Nylon have just put out a shimmery, sun-drenched 21-track concept album rooted in indie-pop, funk, disco and rock-pop motifs. From that record, we’re shining a sunbeam on title-track ‘Pool Party’, a stand-out single which puts everything you’d associate with a summertime celebration into a song. Comprised of grooving basslines, tight percussion and a warm, analog production, this energetic track is led by featured artist Lenny McFly‘s charming vocals, which add their own laid-back swagger.

From the funky rhythms to the charismatic vocals to the Tascam 388 recording, ‘Pool Party’ gives an intentionally vintage impression and yet those retro elements are wrapped up in a fresh, modern package that wouldn’t sound out of place on any current day dance-floor. Much of that magic comes from the chemistry between the collaborative artists; The Brothers Nylon‘s aptitude for spontaneity is the perfect pairing for Cherney‘s instinctive melodies. It really captures the joy of making music.

Undeniably carefree, ‘Pool Party’ aims to give the listener that feel-good, uplifting feeling, but without being frivolous either. It’s clear that every soulful note, pop hook and rocky riff has an intentional place and purpose here. With that in mind, we recommend repeat plays and with each go-around you should take note of those one-take drum fills, tape-saturated synths and nods to international music scenes.

This genre-hopping festivity is perfect for immersing yourself in that discotheque atmosphere, even if its just you dancing around your room. After all, we all deserve to live in those moments of freedom, movement and joy.

You can also find ‘Pool Party’ in our Soul & Grooves and Outsiders Club playlists.
