This week we’d like to introduce New York’s forerunner of the East Coast’s Southern rock scene, Thompson Newkirk, who recently released his latest single ‘Rebel Soul’. This summer-ready anthem blends americana, blues and rock elements together producing a determined spirit of defiance. No doubt this track is ideal for blasting while you’re driving or for playing when you need a pick-me-up.
It’s that modern wild west feeling drawn from American music traditions that Newkirk deftly weaves into the upbeat single. The guitar is especially prominent here, with its raw edges and soulful riffs, guiding the listener into an imaginative soundscape of dusty roads, fireflies and long, hazy nights.
