As spooky girl autumn approaches, we’re starting to think about our favourite season with a well-nurtured nostalgia. In our opinion, it’s never too early to start embracing the colder months and Love Ghost‘s new single is giving us those October vibes. Named after the device which claims to be able to contact the after-life, ‘Spirit Box’ is the Los Angeles-based artist’s own reach into the void. Reverberating with pain, hope and connection, this emotionally raw and genre-defying sound brings together grungey grit, pop-punk hooks and alt-rock motifs. It’s all about pushing back on expectations.
Opening with evocative guitar melodies, this track quickly shifts gear into high-octane energy. This soundtrack perfectly frames Love Ghost‘s confessional narrative as he unloads personal struggles with mental health, trauma and existential longing into this cathartic expression. This really taps into an authentic emo influence, one that’s rarely pulled off these days. You can’t help but identify on a deep, emotional level with this performance where passion and vulnerability collides.
Not only is it emotionally honest, refusing to bow down to society’s pressure to keep your feelings to yourself, but it also challenges genre boundaries. This dynamic approach creates such an immersive experience, there’s nothing dead and buried about Love Ghost‘s ‘Spirit Box’.
