Introducing Verticoli with reflective alt-rock single ‘See You Around’

There must be something in the water in Tasmania because this is the second project that we’ve come across from the island in the past week. To be fair, it would be hard to miss this alt-rock stunner no matter where in the world this band came from. Our introduction to Verticoli is ‘See You Around’, a track which chronicles past relationships that come to an end not due to lack of love, but rather due to the extraneous forces of life that can pull two people apart.

We were instantly drawn to the warm, easy-going tone of this deceptively minimalist arrangement. A punchy rhythm section lays the foundation for melodic guitar textures that weave a gentle path through this simple soundscape. The bass and drums work together to keep things on track with an unhurried confidence, allowing those floating vocals to fully explore an intricate array of emotions. This artful use of space and sound is really impressive, displaying a sophisticated edge to Verticoli‘s songwriting. It’s not about making the loudest, most raucous noise possible, rather it’s about unearthing an emotional clarity that listeners can connect with.

‘See You Around’ brings out the bittersweet nostalgia of lost love with a careful precision, yet by the song’s end it’s a sense of acceptance that leaves a lasting impression. As well as standing up as an unmissable single, ‘ this is also a tantalising insight into Verticoli‘s upcoming album Silverlinings.
