‘Duck Duck Goose’ is Harris Rafferty’s indie-rock anthem for growing up

From the unassuming north-west town of Burnley, promising new musician Harris Rafferty makes another step forward in his burgeoning career with his second ever single ‘Duck Duck Goose’. Named after the playground children’s game, this track bursts forward with a playful energy reminiscent of those carefree days from our younger years. There’s a distinctive British sound to this track with swaggering indie-rock rhythms and charismatic Britpop melodies, it immediately grounds you in the UK music scene.

We’re led through the song with propulsive guitars, infectious hooks and magnetic vocals, all of which serve to tell the story of turbulent youth. Whether that’s an urge for self-sabotage, the growing sense of self-awareness or discovering your own identity or finding paths to personal freedom. For everyone, our teenage years are a wild time that teeters between light-hearted rebellion and deeper feelings; Rafferty conveys this dichotomy with his equally cheeky and sincere lyrics.

The emotional core of this song is drawn from the young artist’s real-life experience, as he explains, “the song came from a time when I found myself being such a ‘yes-man’ that it began to deteriorate from my well-being.”

With tracks like ‘Duck Duck Goose’, Rafferty has begun to place himself alongside songwriting legends like Sam Fender, Paolo Nutini and Oasis who put genuine emotion into cathartic indie anthems. While the journey ahead is still very much to come, there’s no denying that the potential is all there in the immediacy of this brilliant new single.
