Taylor Lally shines bright in her joyful alt-pop anthem ‘Yabadabadooda’

Sometimes we need a song that doesn’t take itself too seriously, so it can pick us up and provide some light to break up our daily mundanity. If that sounds like the kind of music you’re after right now, then look no further than the joyfully titled ‘Yabadabadooda’ from Northern Irish songwriter Taylor Lally. It’s her latest release with Saturn Rising Records and it’s another confident, carefree display of exactly why this musician has all the makings of an alt-pop one-to-watch.

From the first few seconds of this single, we were struck by the vibrant, charismatic and relatable aura that Lally puts forward in this off-kilter pop creation. In some parts, the songwriter steps into the surreal such as with quizzical lines like “I wonder how you been since your time travelling paradigm trip…” which adds a touch of magic to this down-to-earth soundscape. Lally‘s lyrical adventurism transforms a real-life encounter into something more expansive, yet still grounded with a mix of humour, sincerity and a mischievous edge.

Produced by Ian Barter (Amy Winehouse, Paloma Faith, Dermot Kennedy), the track blends those meandering indie-pop melodies with lo-fi dream-pop textures and hip-hop-infused grooves. That combination of shimmering guitars, bouncy rhythm section and airy production creates a song that wraps you in its spell; bewitching you a little more with each repeated listen. Whether it’s her breezy confidence or the playful poetry, you can’t help but falling in love with Taylor Lally‘s songwriting.
