Colourshop’s soothing indie-folk ‘Sailing Boat’ finds peace in the flow

You’ve probably heard the saying “go with the flow” before, whether you’ve promised yourself that you’ll take it easy or had someone share that well-meaning advice with you. Sometimes we need a little more incentive to embrace the easy-going lifestyle, so here we have found the serene single ‘Sailing Boat’ from London-based artist Colourshop. In a similar sonic lane to Lianne La Havas and Damien Rice, this tender indie-folk refrain takes an introspective look into how we deal with life’s uncertainties.

Recorded at RoomTo Studio in Barcelona with production from Jason Boshoff and Oscar Bragado, this intimate soundscape evokes a warm, laid-back atmosphere of patterned acoustic strings, emphatic vocals and minimalistic rhythms (courtesy of drummer Bryan Curtis). This notably mellow vibe really gives credit to the intimate chemistry between the musicians and producers during the creative process.

The metaphorical imagery at the heart of ‘Sailing Boat’ is also essential to its construction as the idea of a sea-going vessel being pushed and pulled by natural forces holds up a mirror to the unpredictability of life. Colourshop‘s prescription for this cycle of perpetual change is not to fight it, with those swaying, bossa nova rhythms and comforting guitar providing the backdrop to the artist’s words of counsel. By wading into the contemplative waters of ‘Sailing Boat’, we’re reminded of the beauty in letting go of our expectations. Sometimes the most impactful statement isn’t the loudest, but a quiet moment of genuine intention.
