Introducing Kent-based band Pool Club with their latest single ‘Changing Tides’, which arrives on the cusp of a cold snap with a final burst of sun-soaked warmth. It’s a slice of breezy, shimmering and melodic pop-meets-rock that has a quintessentially British indie core reminiscent of Electric Light Orchestra, Peach Pit and Sam Fender. While there’s something comforting and familiar about this sound, it’s also made unmistakably fresh by this youthful five-piece.
Built on vibrant guitars and elastic rhythms, ‘Changing Tides’ conveys the hazy calm of sunny days, whether they be late-summer evenings or bright winter mornings; it’s a reminder to take note of those fleeting, golden moments. The band work together in a harmonious synergy, with frontmen Eliot and Kieron combining their vocals to lead listeners through a soft yet forward-moving arrangement. Seb‘s steady bass and and Jon‘s dynamic percussion keep the momentum going, while Will‘s keys enhance the soaring melodies with a touch of dreamy haze.
Even though it’s early on in Pool Club‘s career, they’ve clearly landed on their sound, one that’s undeniably confident and cohesive. In an industry full of people who care too much about what others think, this quintet is refreshingly self-contained thanks to years of songwriting and performing together. ‘Changing Tides’ embodies joyful individuality.
