Last month, we came across the music industry polymath Shaky through his self-made single ‘In a Heartbeat’, a ’90s-meets-’00s number that took a playful side-eye at society’s need to sweep things under the rug. Back again, the Shaky Records entrepreneur is taking a more inward look with his new track ‘Take It Away’, which puts the idea of getting back up when you get knocked down into an upbeat indie-rock jam.
Providing some context behind this track, Shaky shares: “Take It Away is one of those tunes that was just burning inside me to get out. October 29th, 2025 – I was having a really gnarly day at work and decided to leave early, rush home and make this song. As usual for me, the whole song came to life in just a few hours of recording. It’s a song about resilience… A song about always trying to do things the right way but constantly getting knocked down. For me, the only option is to get back up – to stay high. I’ve never let other people stop me from being me.”
On ‘Take It Away’, Shaky doubles down on his DIY spirit, by not only handling all the songwriting, recording and production, but also he allows his sound to bleed out over the edges. This isn’t about refinement or polish, it’s about authenticity. From the track’s opening, ticking percussion and strutting guitars beckon the listeners in with an invitingly boisterous energy.
Shaky‘s vocal performance is determined without being pushy, as he digs into that scrappy early-2000s rhythm and delivers his gritty, punching lyrics, like “I’m clocking out of the great escape, I’m working hard to stay awake, another shift, another dream, oh how could I not complain?” In this era of late-stage capitalism, we heartily relate to Shaky‘s satirical critique of the corporate rat-race.
‘Take It Away’ is also accompanied by a DIY music video, filmed with Shaky‘s father Big John. Here, you can see how this one-man-band operation comes to life.
