From an early age Lazarus Lynch knew that he was gay, and while growing up in a Christian household and attending his family’s Black church, he dealt with all the guilt and confusion associated with being gay and being Christian. With ‘I’m Gay’, Lynch sets himself free from these past feelings.
“This song is my freedom song; it’s my anthem. I hope it will reach millions of young gay boys around the world, especially Black boys. I want everyone who listens to find the joy in being them!”
Inspired by the gospel choirs music that Lazarus Lynch grew up surrounded by, ‘I’m Gay’ transforms from a soulful ballad about fear to one of experimental beat-pop celebrating being exactly who he is – an out and proud black gay man. We love this!
