Rising star Lexxicon blends Dancehall with African music influences, creating a unique, hybrid sound which he dubs Afro-Dancehall. ‘Power Over Me‘ is the newest single from Lexxicon‘s catalogue of genre-bending tunes, and the first in a run of singles leading to the release of the Tropicon Islands album and accompanying book of the same name, set to the soundtrack of the album.
Set on the imaginary Tropicon Islands, ‘Power Over Me‘ narrates the story of two lovers in their early ‘honeymoon stage’ where nothing seems to exist or matter apart from your lover, they are the only thing in your universe. ‘Power Over Me‘ describes that burning passion and seemingly unending desire experienced by first or new loves. Romantic yet raunchy, ‘Power Over Me‘ sets the tone for what’s to come for Lexxicon and we can’t wait to see it!
“After travelling to the island, the couple has time to reflect on how they feel about each other. The song touches on the blinding love that you feel when you’ve found the ‘one’. It’s like nothing else matters because they are all you see, want, and care about. Almost as if, they have this divine control over you. This is a song for those in love or those in the honeymoon stages of their new relationship.”
Citing names such as Vybz Kartel, Stefflon Don and Wizkid as some of his favourite artists, it’s no surprise that Lexxicon’s music has found its core fanbase amongst the kids of the diaspora who share his love for the authentic flavours of their home countries as well as the modern sound and styles of the new cities that have adopted them.
