Making her third appearance on the pages of Unrecorded is Northern Irish indie-rocker ROE and we’re so very happy to have her back! Following on from recent single ‘Cruel’, the promising songwriter has teamed up with Ciaran Lavery, plus Tommy McLaughlin on the production side, to write the breathtakingly honest ‘Destroyer’. Alive with raw guitars and spacious reverb, ROE’s pop-accented voice breaks the fuzzed-out surface with her sincere lyrics, such as “my hands are tied up in every way”.
This sense of helplessness is contrasted by ROE‘s undeniable confidence, reflecting to the listener how we all have the strength within to overcome life’s challenges.
Just like co-writer Lavery says: “Destroyer is knowledge of being in something deeply unhealthy, but simultaneously holds a power over the controlled. I feel the song attempts to capture that inner and outer conflict that prefaces the questioning of leaving someone.”
Labelled as “existential indie”, we definitely want more of what ROE is cooking up right now.
You can also listen to ‘Destroyer’ in our Indie Rockers playlist.
