ICYMI: Sapphire ascends to pop heaven with ‘call u mine’

on

Heavenly, divine, ethereal – all words that we’d readily apply to SAPPHIRE‘s latest single ‘call u mine’. Released towards the end of last year, it was another one we couldn’t quite get up before the holidays, but we don’t want anyone to miss out on this slice of pop perfection.

In contrast to the quirky synth-pop offering ‘Repeat’, the British artist’s second single of 2021 is a return to what she does best – emotional performances, open-hearted lyrics and impressive vocal athleticism. It’s truly a fan pleaser, staying in the realm of her much loved YouTube channel on which SAPPHIRE performs cover songs on the piano, guitar and a cappella. With ‘call u mine’ however, the story and emotion are all hers.

“I really wanted this song to mimic the feeling of falling in love – that warm fuzzy feeling that we’ve all experienced in some way. But even though the production mirrors that feeling, the lyrics explain how it’s not always happily ever after.

I think ‘call u mine’ has really given me an opportunity to go back to my roots, taking inspiration from some of my idols like Carly Simon and Carole King. I’ve always felt like their songs came from the heart, which I’m hoping is how people will feel when they listen to this song.”
