We don’t often get the pleasure or privilege to review songs outside of the English language, but that certainly doesn’t mean we’re not open to it. Today, we’re shining a light on the Italian rock scene and in particular Neapolitan outfit TATARELLA, composed of singer-songwriter Antonio Tatarella and pianist-producer Gaetano De Luca, who recently released their anthemic single ‘Lontano dai ricordi’.
The song opens with a romantic melody and delicate guitars, but this initial impression is a brief one that’s shattered by the striking guitar riff. Grounded by a deep bass groove, ‘Lontano dai ricordi’ becomes increasingly rockier as the unhinged frustration flies free. This grungey track expresses the desire to break free of our self-built cages, yet the fight against daily struggles and hidden demons is not to be underestimated. We especially love passion of the fiery guitar riff over the drum breakdown. The earthy instrumentation contrasts to the singer’s liberated vocals, which move from traditional Italian melodies into classic rock expressions.
As promised, TATARELLA offer a refined version of Italian rock for a generation of millennials who are facing unprecedented challenges in this day and age.
