On the Record: Volumo

For those who have never heard of Volumo, what is it, and how does it work?
Anton: Volumo is a new-generation online electronic music store catering to pro-DJs, seasoned selectors, and a broader listener. We offer a curated and transparent platform where artists can set their pricing and monetize their work to the maximum.

What has been the most rewarding/ most enjoyable highlight of your career so far?
Oleksandr: Switching from working purely in IT to combining IT with the music industry and music tech on Volumo. We cherish and cultivate an independent startup spirit within our team, and it fuels our progress and vision.

What have been some major challenges in the making of Volumo?
Denys: Being persistent yet humane and professional during preliminary talks with partners, distributors, and artists. Being a newcomer to a pretty saturated market with some monopolies already established is always a challenge in regards to convincing people to give you a try and join your bandwagon. I won’t mention technical development hurdles to avoid being a buzzkill, huh?

What are you grateful for right now in this moment?
Anton: For being able to work on this fantastic project with a talented home team in Ukraine despite the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine. We are eternally grateful to our brave defenders and strong-spirited people; it is an immense boost and inspiration to everyone at Volumo.

Physical copies or streaming sites?
Oleksandr: Physical copies are a treasure to behold; streaming is exceptionally convenient, yet paid downloads are the gold standard of our era. Volumo is all about legal and fair-priced downloads, so we don’t see any dilemma here.

What is your most played song of 2023 so far?
Denys: Mr. G — U Feel Mi (Kai Alce’s New Feel) (https://volumo.com/album/102649-the-remixes-ep/389653-u-feel-mi)

A playlist you can’t get enough of?
Anton: My taste is of diverse individually-tailored nature. That is why I thoroughly maintain my playlist of approximately 150 tracks. Beyond club music, its highlights include Our Atlantic, Latexfauna, Floating Points, Doja Cat, and Bonobo.

A dream collaboration, who would you love to see using Volumo?
Oleksandr: We’re always diligent and hard-working about expanding our partnerships with distributors and labels, so a dream collaboration would be one where we’ve signed everyone we aspire towards. We want to see a wealth of up-and-coming artists building their careers and receiving fair compensation thanks to Volumo. We want to attract and engage with avid electronic music listeners thanks to our curated catalog and high-quality offering.

& Lastly, what can fans expect from Volumo this year?
Denys: A series of exclusive releases from their favorite artists appearing on Volumo. A series of lovingly created DJ playlists by seasoned professionals. A constant vibe of discovery and nourishment at Volumo.
