Aldís Fjóla delivers slow-burning piano ballad ‘Quiet the Storm’

As we crawl closer towards the shortest day and longest night of the year here in the Northern hemisphere, we find our thoughts tuning inwards. There’s something so all-encompassing about these winter days and it’s essential to find song that evoke the same sense of introspection. One such single is ‘Quiet the Storm’ from Icelandic artist Aldís Fjóla, a slow-burning piano ballad which draws on rock, pop, grunge and classical styles for this entrancing recording.

Originally written by the artist’s close friend and bandmate Halldór Sveinsson years earlier, Fjóla couldn’t shake the haunting impression and so asked her friend if she could write some lyrics and record it. The result, with icy, melancholic and isolated lyricism, is one of divine collaboration. You can’t help but listen and think that this was all meant to be.

We’re especially drawn to the warmth of the composition in the chorus from which the song’s title derives its name, “you quiet the storm.” This sense of hope reflects the role of friends who unassumingly and gently offer their support through hard times.

The final version of ‘Quiet the Storm’ was produced and mixed by Stefan Örn Gunnlaugsson and mastered by Sigurdór Guðmundsson. This refined and intimate track isn’t one we’ll be forgetting any time soon.
