In short, The Spitting Pips are raw, defiant and unapologetically working class. This Llandudno five-piece, composed of Zack (vocals), Silver (guitar), Dav (guitar), Bobby (bass), and James (drums), have built this sturdy reputation from the ground up with tracks like ‘Lowerclass Madness’. In a society that’s obsessed with class and status, this band deliver a shouting protest from an increasingly forgotten generation from the UK’s sidelined towns and cities.
From the off, you can feel the burning passion at the core of this band’s ethos with a simmering guitar riff, direct frontman vocals and abrasive alt-rock rhythms. Both the bass and percussion work together to propel the track forward with an unmatched momentum while those razor-sharp guitars weave their intense routes through the track. That interplay between grit and melody echoes the urgent hunger and unrelenting determination shared by so many working class creatives. You’ve got to work to keep that dream alive.
With a healthy dose of post-punk attitude, indie-rock melodies and a splash of Britpop flair, this track is firmly rooted in a local tradition of big, bold music. It’s bursting with burning conviction, especially the chorus which fully breaks loose and unleashes that live show energy. Recorded at Orange Studios in Penmaenmawr with longtime collaborator Russ Hayes, and mastered in Sweden by August Green, there’s no denying that ‘Lowerclass Madness’ is a true grassroots anthem. It’s also a release that marks an exciting new chapter for The Spitting Pips and we can’t wait to see what these Welsh rockers come up with next.
