Ardentjohn is a dynamic group of musicians who were drawn to Edinburgh from different parts of Scotland, England and Spain, which is where they found common ground amongst the iconic sandstone buildings and the city’s bubbling music scene. With a backcatalog dating all the way back to 2007, it’s safe to say that this band landed on something special as their creativity and chemistry is a well that has yet to run dry.
The latest show of Ardentjohn‘s shared songwriting magic is ‘Into The Night’, a warm and reassuring piece of folk-inflected indie-rock. Building on their previous 2026 release ‘Hey Boy’, the band expands upon an uplifting message of human connection. This is best demonstrated by the central refrain of ‘Into The Night’, which reminds us that even in the face of darkness, there’s hope: “into the night, I whisper your name. Sometimes love is all we have.”
In this case, the band are dealing with themes of love, loss and resilience, but the comforting lyrics can easily be applied to any listener’s lived experience. This pliability is also helped along by organic indie textures, easy-going melodies and grounded, americana twist. From Seth Marron’s drumming to Greg Isted’s bass to Mark Abbott’s soaring guitar lines to Keiron Mason’s wonderfully expressive vocals; it all moves together in effortless harmony, reflecting the band members’ long-term friendship.
The accompanying music video really hones in on the intersection between emotion and music, with clips of the various members playing their respective instruments alongside glitching vignettes of nature, shreds of lyrics and hints of the natural world.
