On the Record: Laura Dre

For those who have never heard of Laura Dre, who is she and what is her music about?

Laura Dre is an LGBTQ+ icon making 80s infused electro-pop music, her current album is about unrequited love.

What has been the most rewarding/ most enjoyable highlight of your career so far?

People tell me that they have anxiety / depression and that my music makes them feel better, helping them through tough times. This is the most rewarding to me.

What have been some major challenges in your music career so far?

Commitment of band members, it’s the reason why I’m rocking solo now.

What are you grateful for right now in this moment?

That I’m doing exactly what I need to be doing and what I was meant for: Making music.

I’m also extremely grateful for my awesome record label who are ‘holding my hand’ whilst I’m on this journey into the unknown.

Physical copies or streaming sites?

Physical. My debut dropped on 9 July and we’re almost sold out of the first limited edition Obi Strip run of 100 cds, 100 cassettes and 200 vinyls. Indie record stores in Tokyo have also reached out so we’ve had to send some that way too.

What was your most played song of 2020?

Moving Spaces.

A playlist you can’t get enough of?

I make my own, this one here is Japanese city pop:

A dream collaboration?

That would be me & Qrion.

& Lastly, what can fans expect from Laure Dre in the coming year?

A new album and hopefully some shows in Japan (depending on the pandemic situation)
