For those who have never heard of The Crystal Casino Band who are they and what is their music about?
All: The Crystal Casino Band are Washington DC’s most dangerous indie rock band. We are Pete Stevens, Joey Mamlin, Jordan Mullaney and Jarrod Hendricks. As elder members of the Gen z generation we’re hoping to carry on the indie rock torch into the 2020s and bring in a new generation of indie artists.
What has been the most rewarding/ most enjoyable highlight of your career so far?
P: I love hearing how our songs have affected some of our fans. A lot of them are inspired or based from personal experiences so it means a lot that people can relate to them. Every single time someone says how much one of our songs means something to them it solidifies the reasons why we create art in the first place.
Joey: Agree with all of this, also in general it’s very rewarding to watch people react to our live shows. Specifically when we played at Pearl Street Warehouse last summer, it was the first concert that a lot of people had been to in several years and you could just feel the excitement from everyone who was there.
Jarrod: In addition to what’s already been said, meeting fans is super rewarding to me. Fans can seem to be just numbers when they’re on Spotify or Instagram, but getting to meet them face-to-face and get that live and in-person interaction really makes all the hard work worth it!
What have been some major challenges in your music career so far?
P: Definitely the pandemic and missing out on the chances to perform live. However, I think we used this opportunity to really work on the product of our music on the songwriting and production front.
Jordan: This is something that all musicians face, but it’s never been easy to be taken seriously. And especially in college for us. To a certain extent we’re over that hump, and people are able to realize how personal our work is to us rather than viewing it as a fleeting hobby. It takes a lot of courage to share your creative passions with the world, and it’s an amazing feeling to be recognized for it.
What are you grateful for right now in this moment?
P: I am super grateful for our producers Kyle Downes and Jay Nemeyer. I just got off of a recording session for our next album with them and it is 100% true that we would not be where we are today if it wasn’t for their help in our music. Their production took our music to places we never believed it could go.
Joey: I’m grateful for the opportunity to be artistic and to perform, whether that is in a live setting or in the studio. It’s an extremely fulfilling endeavor and it’s amazing that people connect with what we do.

What is your most played song of 2022 so far?
P: If it’s talking about us, our song waste my time is our most popular. Otherwise my most streamed song of 2022 is hard to believe by Wallows.
A playlist you can’t get enough of?
P:I really love Spotify’s “my life is a movie” I have discovered a ton of gems through this one!
A dream collaboration?
P: I would be so thrilled if we ever got to collaborate with Wallows whether it be musically or touring. I think there’s a lot of overlap with our fanbases and sound.
Jordan: I’ll piggyback off Pete’s answer and say Clairo. Her feature on “Are You Bored Yet?” is easily one of the most memorable and well-executed indie rock collabs in recent memory. Plus, I’m just a huge fan of her music in general. “Sling” was my favorite album of 2021.
& Lastly, what can fans expect from The Crystal Casino Band this year?
P: In 2022, you can expect 4 more single releases and in the beginning of 2023 there will be an album 🙂
