Killiope is a brand new project from Los Angeles based singer-songwriter and artist Layneybaby, who is using the new moniker to explore elements of alt-pop, rock and trap in one cohesive style. He made his debut as Killiope earlier this year with single ‘Ten Thousand Degrees’ and now we’re already at track number three, tantalizingly titled ‘Cinnamon’.
From start to finish, ‘Cinnamon’ is a sensuous listen in which the crisp trap beats are heated up over fiery guitar guitars. Complimenting these two syncopated sounds is the artist’s rock-tinged voice, brimming with character and confidence, which is almost ironic considering the message at the heart of this deceptively layered song.
Here, Layneybaby explains the context around the song: “Cinnamon is about being so in love with someone that you ignore the red flags. The sound is a bit more lighthearted and fun to play on the feeling of being blissfully ignorant and undeterred by the abuse. The song was born on a car ride when the melody popped into my head, and I guess I was craving something sweet and cinnamon-y.”
