Tune into Damp Matches’ punkish, indie-rock anthem ‘Sweet Nothing’

Appearing for the first time on Unrecorded, Damp Matches is a band from the British city of Norwich. With a blend of alt-rock, trash-hop, and anthemic indie to create a unique sound, their music is designed for high-energy environments, or those times when you’re lagging and need a lift with their invigorating and refreshed sound.

The band’s latest release, ‘Sweet Nothing’ is an indie-rock meets punk anthem that features front-woman Helena Lewis‘ soaring vocals, that are reminiscent of Hayley Williams and Ellie Rowsell. Those punchy and shouty vocals are echoed by the rest of Damp Matches’ hard-hitting guitar lines and high-energy drums. Brought all together, this track is a euphoric offering.

The chorus of ‘Sweet Nothing’ stands out with its hook-filled melody line and lyricism, paired with the raucous and almost commercial alt-rock appeal in the arrangement. The song deals with the struggles of substance abuse and its impact on mental and physical health, as well as relationships with those around you. Damp Matches‘ ability to make intoxicating yet relatable music makes them a band to watch in 2023.
