Since making her debut a couple of years ago, Piper Connolly has continued to push forward with a rare determination that often shows through her fiery rock-pop singles. The latest of these releases is ‘body bag’, a track that doesn’t hold back on any front. From her biting honesty to powerhouse vocals to the explosive energy, it’s designed to grip the listener’s attention and not let go until the very last second.
‘body bag’ chronicles Connolly’s personal experience of breaking free from a toxic friendship, but it’s a narrative that anyone can relate to, whether it’s romantic, platonic or other relationships that have left scars of their own on your life. For as much as the artist’s former friend tried to hurt her, “called me best to my face then you murdered me, put a knife in my back such a tragedy,” she refuses to be crushed, “break me down but I’ll come back, can’t put me in a body bag.”
Far from being a bitter clap-back, ‘body bag’ shifts the focus to her own journey of healing with the resounding sense of triumph coming through her rock-charged pop hooks. Underpinned by an ear-catching bass line, the track swings from sassy, rhythm-led verses and the anthemic rock chorus, influenced by a love for gritty garage rock. As a whole picture, ‘body bag’ is nothing short of empowering.
