We were first charmed by Michelle Bond‘s breezy and bright songwriting last year with the release of her single ‘LET’S GO MOVE AROUND’. Since then, the San Francisco artist has been busy honing her craft, releasing a string of songs and preparing for the next evolution of the Michellar project. This all leads us to her latest release, ‘can’t get you out of my mind’, which is a notably more polished effort that taps into the artist’s love for ’60s/’70s psychedelic and rock sounds.
Inspired by the likes of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and The Doors, Bond has reshaped some of those vintage textures into a track that transcends the decades in order to place emphasis on the timelessness of emotional honesty. Really, that’s what songwriting is all about, digging down deep in search of an inner truth. In this case, Bond gives voice to the experience of tragic, uncontrollable and obsessive thought patterns.
For the first minute, the track uses sparse guitars and isolated vocals to convey this darker side of the human psyche. After this, the pace picks up with a nimble bass and reactive drums, along with Bond‘s more energetic delivery of that repeated statement. As the track progresses, it follows an ebb and flow that mirrors the rush and rumination of these all-consuming thoughts.
Recording between San Francisco and Nashville, ‘can’t get you out of my mind’ is a truly hypnotic piece of psychedelica that also sets out the path towards Michellar‘s forthcoming concept album, due for release in 2027.
