North Carolina alt-rock musician RIOT SON releases riotous new single ‘Another Chance’

This year has been a landmark one for North Carolina alternative artist RIOT SON, as he’s spent the past few months building up to his forthcoming EP. Created alongside lead alt and emo German producer Manget$u, these four tracks present RIOT SON‘s vision at its most realised. Coming under our focus on this occasion is the latest EP installment, ‘Another Chance’, which has grabbed our attention with its melancholic undertone and rebellious swagger.

At the song’s outset, the listener is almost immediately launched into an urgent surge of ’00s indie melodies, surfy ’60s drums, a ’90s grunge tinge and a modern rock polish. By pulling in elements from across these decades, RIOT SON gives his sound a certain timelessness, which lends itself well to the relatability of the songwriting here too.

All that gritty urgency is matched by the pull-and-pull tension of a relationship that is always in flux. With his conversational lyrics, RIOT SON vividly paints a couple caught between passion and distance, with each one pulling away or coming back together or begging for that one last chance to do things differently. It’s clear that this musician’s songwriting thrives on in-between states, as he evokes uncertain love, time-traversing style and the diverse landscape of North Carolina.

From the coastal ease of Outer Banks to the restlessness of the state’s mountain towns, it’s clear that the musician’s surroundings bleed into the dynamic alt-rock sound of ‘Another Chance’. It’s a bold single that builds excitement for RIOT SON‘s next EP, so watch this space for more.
