For those who have never heard of Jack Louis Cooper, who is he and what is his music about?
I am a 25 year old songwriter based in Bristol, I love writing songs and creating a world within a song. A lot of my music is about my life and the world I see around me, so I dive into my own mental health and try to open up a conversation around that!
What has been the most rewarding/ most enjoyable highlight of your career so far?
Anytime anyone has come up to me or messaged me that they like or have connected with one of my songs! It is really something special that an idea you had in your head is then translated into a song and people resonate and respond to it.
What have been some major challenges in your music career so far?
Just sustaining it to be honest! Financially it is hard to keep it going, I balance it with another job at the moment. As a smaller independent artist you’re not earning a lot of money if anything from streaming. Also getting out of your own way, by that I mean not overthinking your music and releases, I’ve talked myself out of ideas but I’m learning to trust my instincts more.
What are you grateful for right now at this moment?
I’m grateful that the heating in my new flat actually works haha! But also that my new single Lying Low has been released!
Physical copies or streaming sites?
I used to love buying CD’s for my car because I only had a CD player and I still like to buy vinyl, it feels like the full version of what the artist was trying to create. But I use streaming sites pretty much everyday!
What is your most played song of 2021?
Either I Don’t Wanna Wait by The War on Drugs or Selfish by Little Simz
A playlist you can’t get enough of?
I’ve been trying to make my own monthly playlist of songs I like so I can keep track of what I’ve listened to so I’d say that or whatever is on my On Repeat playlist on Spotify haha!
A dream collaboration?
There’s definitely some producers/songwriters that would be dream collaborations but I’d have to say Jack Antonoff, recently I got into his solo project Bleachers and he has worked with some amazing artists like Lorde and Clairo, I like his approach to songwriting and production!
