Chillum’s having fun ‘Dancing Alone’ on his newest acoustic-electro hybrid single

Los Angeles based singer-songwriter and producer, Chillum is having fun ‘Dancing Alone’ on his newest acoustic-electro, hybrid single. The 22-year-old musician’s latest offering is taken from his soon to be released EP and follows on from his previous single, ‘Waste My Time‘ featuring Devyn Sawyer, which was released earlier this year.

Self-written and produced, Chillhum’s ‘Dancing Alone’ is a smooth, eclectic mix of electronically distorted drums, inspired by musicians Flume and Couros, seamlessly blended with Chillhum’s acoustic guitar riffs. By pre-engineering the drum samples and layering his signature guitar riffs and manipulated vocals over them, Chillhum manufactured a unique, ear-catching sound and atmosphere, a personal favourite track and the perfect addition to his catalogue of trademark alternative, hybrid music.

“‘Dancing Alone’ is another one of my personal favourite tracks. I think the initial production/workflow of this song was to this day one of the fastest I have ever had. This Idea felt so perfect to me from the moment I had the drumbeat programmed in and it truly was one of those projects that felt like it was writing itself. I had been super inspired by the distorted/alternative sound of the drums used by artists like Flume or Couros, and so I spent a lot of time finding the perfect samples to set the right tone for the song. I then focused on guitar and the main riff came super quickly. The combination of the simple guitar riff and heavy drums immediately made me smile and reminded me of some of my more original sources of inspiration like Slightly Stoopid and Sublime. I really tried to channel that high energy good vibe feeling into the vocals/writing and I was stoked with the result.”

Despite its sad sounding title, ‘Dancing Alone’ is a song of celebration rather than commiseration, it’s about enjoying your own company, letting your hair down and dancing alone in the sun. Chillhum’s cheerful message and weird and wacky soundscape make for a chilled-out, sunny song perfect for easing your lockdown blues.
