We’ve followed multi-disciplinary musician Pete Bott through each phase of his EP trilogy as the enigmatic Messy Eater, from Starters to Southern Fried and now Comfort Food. With each serving of his creative vision, we’ve felt more and more welcomed into this artist’s inner space as he himself seeks to offer up more honesty, vulnerability and connection. As well as this emotional diversity, this Messy Eater project also brings together so many different genre elements, from dance to hip-hop to synth-pop, which really adds a unique liveliness to his music akin to legends like Gorillaz or more recent artists like Still Woozy. This open approach to sonic adventure has really helped Bott to build a glowing reputation as one of the UK’s most inventive alt-pop newcomers, something that’s been recognised across the blogosphere and into the realms of radio with BBC Introducing and Amazing Radio airtime. On Comfort Food, he continues this upward trajectory with a kaleidoscopic combination of irresistible hooks, uplifting melodies and witty, observational lyrics. To mark this milestone, we invited Pete Bott back for an On The Record feature, this time brought to life in this special video interview. Sit back, relax, grab a snack and let’s dive into this unique insight into the world of Messy Eater.
